AB de Villiers overtakes Virat Kohli as the number 1 ODI batsman in the latest ICC rankings
Indian skipper Virat Kohli has been displaced as the number 1 ODI batsman by South Africa's AB de Villiers in the latest ICC ODI player rankings. In the second ODI against Bangladesh, de Villiers scored a 104-ball 176 with the help of 15 fours and seven sixes, which is the reason for his jump.
Kohli, who had a mediocre series by his standards against Australia, has 877 points in the latest rankings while AB de Villiers, who leapfrogged both Kohli and David Warner to the top spot, has 879 points, two more than Kohli.
With this, de Villiers has spent 2124 days at the top of the ODI batsmen's rankings, which is the second most by any batsman after West Indies great Vivian Richards, who was the number one for 2,306 days.
Other batsmen to move up in the table are Pakistan’s Babar Azam (two places to a career-best fourth position), the South African pair of Quinton de Kock (three places to fifth) and Hashim Amla (two places to ninth), and Bangladesh’s Mushfiqur Rahim (five places to 18th).
One more Indian in the top-10, Rohit Sharma has come down by a couple of places to seventh in the latest rankings.
The biggest gainer of the latest ranking update is Pakistan pacer Hassan Ali, who has jumped six places to become the number ODI bowler in the World, thanks to his heroics in the ICC Champions Trophy and the ongoing ODI series against Sri Lanka.
With this, he becomes the fifth bowler after Trent Boult, Imran Tahir, Kagiso Rabada and Josh Hazlewood to become the number 1 ODI bowler. Thanks to Ali's jump, India's Jasprit Bumrah loses a place and is currently sixth in the table.
South Africa are the new number 1 side in the World after beating Bangladesh in the first two ODIs and are ahead of India on decimal points.
