What’s the story?

In what can be described as a colossal blow to South Africa, AB de Villiers has been ruled out of the 3-match T20 series against India owing to an injured left knee.

De Villiers who did not take part in the first three ODI matches made a comeback for the final three matches, but could not make any significant impact on either the dilapidated South African batting or the result.

The details

According to reports, AB had suffered the injury before the fourth match but turned out to play for the final couple of matches.

However, his injury concern means that South Africa will be without their best player in the 3-match T20 series.

In case you didn’t know…

After going down 2-1 in the Test series, the visitors came roaring back and annihilated the Proteas 5-1 in the following ODI series.

Both teams face each other in a 3-match T20I series now.

What’s next?

With the Australian series coming up, this might well be a precautionary move by South Africa, as they will love to field a full-fledged team. The 4-match Test series against Australia starts on March 1.

Both teams are coming after winning their respective Test series against India and England.
