Abhinav Mukund becomes second Indian cricketer to carry his bat in a List A innings
Abhinav Mukund scored 104* for Tamil Nadu against Gujarat in the Vijay Hazare Trophy semi-final on Saturday in a losing cause, however getting his name into a very elite list in the process – the opener is only the second Indian to carry his bat in a List A innings, and the 46th from around the world.
Tamil Nadu, in an attempt to regain India’s premier 50-over domestic championship after a gap of five years, capitulated to the spin onslaught of Axar Patel on the day, who recorded career-best figures of 6/43. However, the left handed Mukund’s constant presence at one end of the pitch was an inspiration, one that kept the match alive till the last 3 overs.
None of Mukund’s teammates rose to the occasion however, as Mukund was left stranded with the final TN score being 217.
Technically, Mukund is the first person to carry his bat in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, which got its current name and form only in 2002-03. Interestingly, the only other Indian on the list, VB Chandrashekhar, also turned out for Tamil Nadu.
The feat has been done 9 times in ODIs
