ACC Premier League: Nepal beat UAE on opening day
Nepal’s national cricket team defeated ODI nation United Arab Emirates (UAE) by four wickets on the opening day of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) Premier League played at Selangor Turf Club, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Wining the toss, Nepal elected to field first. Batting first, UAE managed to score 191 runs in 48.1 overs. Swopnil Patil scored 76 runs and Krishnachandran Karate scored 36 runs for UAE. Sompal Kami and Mahboob Alam took 3 wickets each to restrict UAE to 191 runs. Shakti Gauchan took 2 wickets while Sagar Pun took 1 wickets for Nepal.
Chasing the target of 192 to win the match, Nepal didn’t start well as the openner Naresh Budaair was out in the 2nd over just scoring 5 runs. But another opener Subash Khakurel scored 71 runs, Vice-captain Gyanendra Malla scored 47 runs and skipper Parash Khadka scored 30 runs to achieve the target in 39.5 overs.
Nepal’s opening batsman Subash Khakurel was adjudged man of the match.
In the other matches of the day, Afghanistan defeated Hong Kong by 6 wickets and Oman beat Malaysia by 74 runs.
The round-robin stage of the tournament will be held from May 1 to May 7, 2014. Hosts Malaysia, Nepal, Afghanistan, UAE, Hong Kong and Oman are participating, in what is the inaugural edition of the ACC Premier League.
