Champions League T20: Adam Voges named Perth Scorchers captain

Melbourne, Sep 9 (IANS) Australian batsman Adam Voges was on Tuesday handed the task of delivering another piece of silverware to the WACA trophy room after being named captain of the Perth Scorchers ahead of the upcoming Champions League Twenty20 tournament in India.

Voges, replacing the recently retired Simon Katich, believes his side is capable of continuing the run of success the Twenty20 outfit has experienced in their brief history.

"It's extremely exciting and it's a real privilege to be named the Scorchers captain," Voges was quoted as saying in Cricket Australia (CA) website.

"Simon Katich has done a terrific job over the past few years, to win our first trophy in Western Australia (WA) for 10 years, it's something we will all remember."

"The tough part is to follow it up this year."

Voges, who played with Jamaica Tallawahs in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) recently, will be one of the competition's most seasoned T20 players, is excited by the Scorchers twin campaigns over the next few months.

"I'm very much looking forward to leading the team in India at the Champions League and then in Big Bash League (BBL)," he added.

"It's been a fantastic three years and to experience that success last year was enormous for everyone involved here in WA.
