Adam Zampa hoping to prove his skills as a Test match bowler

Adam Zampa is hoping to make it big in the longest format of the game

Rated as one of the better spin bowlers to come out of Australia operating in white-ball cricket, Adam Zampa is looking to establish himself in the Test team as well. Having made his debut against New Zealand in February, Zampa is now eyeing a test spot. After finishing as one of the best performing spinners in the recently held Caribbean Premier League, his recent experience of slow and low pitches in the Caribbean is sure to aid his upcoming tour of Sri Lanka.

Earlier Zampa stated, “It's a big opportunity for me”, as reported by ESPN Cricinfo. The Australian believes that the opportunities in limited-overs cricket will be the platform that he will look to build on in order to breakthrough into the test side.

With Jon Holland and Steve O’Keefe playing alongside Nathan Lyon in the ongoing series in Sri Lanka, Adam knows his chances are going to be limited. The opportunity for Zampa to shine will probably arise in the Shield games. Already touted highly by former test leg-spinner Kerry O’Keeffe as per the cricket.com.au website, Zampa also is a useful resource with the bat.

India tour awaits Zampa

His immediate aim though is the India tour of Australia in February-March, 2017 where he hopes the dustbowls would give him an opportunity to hone his trade further. A strong showing in the Shield games will force the selector’s hands and he will hope to be included in the squad for that tour.

Adam understands the importance of patience in test cricket and knows that the axing of Glenn Maxwell can actually help him cement his squad in ODI cricket before he goes on to vie for a starting spot in the test team. His 6-19 against the Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL remains one of the best performances in the tournament’s history. With an action resembling that of Shane Warne, Zampa will hope to emulate his feats as well. His performance in the T20 World Cup helped him earn a rookie contract with New South Wales in the year 2010.

Australia’s recent performances in Sri Lanka have left a lot to be desired and although there have been instances where Australia have dominated Sri Lanka, they have been unable to press on. Zampa’s bowling skills is sure to come handy, in the limited over’s arena.
