In the first T20 international of the Afghanistan v Kenya series at Sharjah, Afghanistan recorded a comfortable 106 run victory as they bowled out Kenya for just 56 – the lowest total in T20 International cricket.

Afghanistan won the toss and chose to bat and they were given a massive boost at the start of the innings as opener Mohammad Shahzad scored a quick-fire 36 off 19 balls which included 4 boundaries and 3 sixes.

Asghar Stanikzai and Mohammad Nabi also contributed to the total scoring 43 and 26 respectively before Samiullah Shenwari finished things off with a blistering 39 off just 14 balls with which included 4 sixes, as they amassed a total of 162 in 20 overs for the loss of six wickets.

In response, Kenya had a terrible start to their innings as they lost both their openers within the first eight balls. Afghanistan’s Hamid Hassan ripped through the top order as he grabbed 3 wickets conceding just 4 runs in his quota of 4 overs, a performance that made him the man of the match.

Kenya’s top scorer was NM Odhiambo (13) as only two batsmen managed to reach double figures in an innings that saw three batsmen dismissed for a duck.

Afghanistan will play Kenya again in a second T20I on October 11.
