Afghanistan create history with 32-run win over Bangladesh in Asia Cup

Afghanistan registered their first win over a Test playing nation

Afghanistan created history today when they defeated Bangladesh by 32 runs in Asia Cup.

This is Afghanistan’s first win over a Test-playing nation. Their previous 16 wins in 29 ODIs came against Netherlands, Canada, Kenya and Scotland.

Having won the toss, Bangladesh put Afghanistan in to bat first. It looked to be the right decision when Afghanistan lost half their side before 100 runs on the board.

However, half-centuries by Asghar Stanikzai (90) and Samiullah Shenwari (81) brought the visitors back into the match and gave them more than a fighting chance, helping Afghanistan reach 254 at the loss of 6 wickets from their allotted 50 overs.

Despite a half-century from Mominul Haque (50) and contributions by Nasir Hossain (41) and Ziaur Rahman (41), Bangladesh fell 32 runs short of the target, handing a memorable win to Afghanistan.

At 8/165, it looked all over for Bangladesh, but some late contributions from Rahman, who hit 3 sixes and 4 fours in his 41-run knock, kept Afghanistan on their toes. However, they kept their cool and sealed the match with more than 2 overs to spare.
