Afghanistan and Ireland are ready to face each other this summer in India. The full three-format series which was scheduled to commence on 23rd of February will now be starting from 21st of February. This change was made to avoid a clash with the Indian Premier League.
The series would get underway on 21st of February with three T20 Internationals. After the T20s, the teams will compete in a five ODI series which will begin from 28th of February. The series would end with a lone test which will be played on 15th of March, 2019.
This series is going to be extremely critical for Afghanistan, who would be facing the giants of cricket at the 2019 Cricket World Cup. For them, gaining some momentum is going to be the key motive as it would fuel their confidence before they take the world stage. Ireland, on the other hand, would look to seek revenge for the humiliation they faced, which was inflicted by Afghanistan last year.
The sole Test match is going to be a rather interesting affair. Both Afghanistan and Ireland were granted Test membership in 2017. And coincidentally, both of them have played one test each since then - Afghanistan played against India and Ireland played against Pakistan - which both of them have lost after battling hard. Both the teams would love to have their first test victory making this particular contest all the more competitive.
