Afridi keen on playing in Big Bash

Shahid Afridi has been a T20 superstar for Pakistan of late

Southampton, June 13 (IANS) Veteran Pakistan all-rounder Shahid Afridi on Monday expressed an interest in playing in Australia's Big Bash League.

The 36-year-old, who has been dumped by the national selectors, is currently plying his trade for Hampshire in England's domestic T20 competition.

"I was offered to play Big Bash League in Australia almost every season in the last two or three years but I wasn't able to take the offer due to my international commitments," Afridi was quoted as saying by cricket.com.au.

"But if I am offered it this year I'll surely give it a go."

Afridi also believes he will get a national team call back sometime soon and has also notified selector Inzamam-ul-Haq about his availability.

"I'll be available for the national team whenever it needs me. In fact, before coming (to this interview) I spoke with the chief selector Inzamam-ul-Haq and told him that it is good to have youngsters in the team but in case he needs me I will be available," he said.

Afridi added he was fit enough to play for a couple of years in different T20 competitions around the world.

"I am very focused on cricket and want to continue it. I am looking after myself very well and working hard on my fitness," he remarked.

"I still feel that I can play for the next couple of years whether it is for Pakistan or PSL (Pakistan Super League), Big Bash or England (domestic) T20s."
