Australia v India 2014/15: Akshar Patel replaces injured Ravindra Jadeja for final two Tests

Akshar Patel to replace Ravindra Jadeja in India’s Test squad

Indian all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja has been ruled out of the final two Tests against Australia due to a shoulder injury and will return home. Gujarat all-rounder Akshar Patel has been named Jadeja’s replacement.

A BCCI release added that the 26-year-old Saurashtra cricketer will return home and undergo a rehabilitation programme.

Patel made his ODI debut for India against Bangladesh in Dhaka earlier this year after an impressive show in the Indian Premier League (IPL) for Kings XI Punjab. He played the final ODI against the West Indies at Dharamsala where he picked up 2 wickets in his 10 overs, and he was also a part of the Indian team that beat Sri Lanka 5-0 at home in November.

The 20-year-old has played 10 first-class matches for Gujarat so far, picking up 32 wickets at an average of 27.18. He has been handy with the bat too, having scored 499 runs in at an average of 45.36 since making his first-class debut for Gujarat in November 2012, against Madhya Pradesh at Indore.
