Alex Hales with brilliant response to Piers Morgan on Twitter
With Hashim Amla and Faf du Plessis looking flawless in the middle on day 3 of the 2nd Test between South Africa and England at Cape Town, Alastair Cook decided to give opening batsman Alex Hales the ball. Hales, who had never bowled in international cricket previously, bowled a wayward opening over.
Hales began with a loopy delivery, which Amla hit on the legside for a single. The rest of the over was no different apart from the fact that absolutely no runs were scored. Everyone felt that for the love of Test cricket, the England captain shouldn’t give the Nottinghamshire cricketer another over.
That was when TV personality Piers Morgan, who is known to be an avid fan of cricket, proclaimed that he was a better bowler than Hales.
The former CNN host also posted a video of him dismissing Brian Lara in an unofficial match to boost his claim.
Cook, who obviously had no clue of what people were saying on social media, had other ideas and brought Hales in for another over. This time around, he bowled 5 dot balls before Amla took a single off the final delivery.
Hales was given one more over, which was a maiden. Just 2 runs and 1 maiden from 3 overs were hardly figures indicative of the way he bowled, but the Notts opener didn’t mind if his reply to Morgan is anything to go by.
The 27-year-old wasn’t done there. He even questioned former English spinner Graeme Swann about his economy rate in Test cricket.
Hales has bowled before in domestic cricket. He has also taken 3 wickets in first-class matches, including best bowling figures of 2/63.
