Ali Bacher hails South Africa's all-rounders
Former South African Test cricketer and administrator of the United Cricket Board of South Africa, Ali Bacher in his recent book ‘Jacques Kallis and 12 other Great South African All-Rounders’ has mentioned that the Rainbow nation has produced the best all rounders in the world.
Bacher and co-author David Williams are all praise for the fine breed of all rounders South Africa has produced over the years and pays rich tributes to them in his book.
“David and I are of the opinion that this country has produced more great all rounders than any other Test-playing nation,” Bacher told ESPNcricinfo ahead of the publication’s launch. “Most other teams only had one great all-rounder at a time, but South Africa had many.
He also quoted one of former Austrialan captain Steve Waugh‘s comments about Kallis.
“Steve Waugh called Jacques Kallis ‘one of the greatest cricketers of all time,’ and that is really a compliment worth sharing,” he said.”
Talking about the advantage of having all rounders in your team, Bacher was quoted as saying:
“As a captain, it’s definitely easier when you have all-rounders in your side,” he said. “You can effectively be playing with 13 or 14 men on the field. That’s a huge plus.”
