Amit Bhandari Assault: DDCA to put life ban on Anuj Dedha
What's the story?
The Delhi and Districts Cricket Association (DDCA) is all set to impose a life ban on U-23 cricketer Anuj Dedha after he and his goons beat up DDCA selector and former India pacer Amit Bhandari for Dedha’s non-selection in the state U-23 team.
DDCA president Rajat Sharma informed PTI that there will be a meeting held today to decide the cricketer’s punishment. He also hinted that a life ban on Dedha seems a formality now.
The background
Anuj Dedha along with his hired hooligans, physically assaulted Amit Bhandari at the St. Stephen’s ground on Monday when the latter was with the senior team preparing for the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. The gang injured Bhandari’s forehead and other body parts after victimizing him with hockey sticks, cricket bats and rods. The victim was taken to hospital and after treatment, is currently under police guardianship.
The heart of the matter
While talking to PTI, the DDCA president stated that, "We have a meeting tomorrow but as our former captain Gautam Gambhir has suggested, I think there is no other option left apart from imposing a life ban on this man Anuj Dedha. Whatever he has done, he only deserves exemplary punishment."
And speaking the agenda and the participants of the meeting, Sharma added, "We need to discuss selection issues but I want to assure all selectors that they should continue to fearlessly select sides. I am with them. I have met the Lt Governor Anil Baijal and requested him to ask the police authorities to probe all angles. I would like to know if there is any deep-rooted conspiracy in this attack."
What's next?
With the meeting of DDCA committee set to take place today, expect them to announce a severe punishment for Anuj Dedha.
