Amitabh Bachchan didn't take a single rupee to sing the national anthem, says Sourav Ganguly

Amitabh Bachchan sang the national anthem before India-Pakistan WT20 match

Bollywood’s Baadshah (King) Amitabh Bachchan again won a billion hearts yesterday when he sang the national anthem before the India-Pakistan match. It was a perfect start to the grand high-voltage match between the two arch-rivals.

But soon after the event, a report started doing the rounds on social media which said that Bachchan took Rs. 4 crore to be present and sing the national anthem. Getting a star with a stature of Bachchan is definitely not easy, and soon people started wondering if patriotism was also an ‘act’ which costs now.

When rumours go viral these days, people don’t waste any time to broadcast their views all over social media. But today morning, Cricket Association of Bengal President Sourav Ganguly laid all the baseless rumours to rest as came out to tell people that Bachchan didn’t take a single rupee to sing the national anthem before the big ICC World Twenty 2016 clash at Eden Gardens.

"Mr Bachchan is one and only, a special person. I am eternally grateful to him. Can you ever imagine someone paying Rs. 30 lakh of his own pocket to perform? He booked his own flight, bought his own tickets and even paid the hotel bills. I literally begged him to take some money but he said that I am doing it for love and there is no question of money being involved," Ganguly was quoted saying by Anandabazar Patrika.

Bachchan, who is also known as Big B, went on to rehearse even when it was drizzling out in Kolkata. It was a dream start he gave to the India-Pakistan game, his heavy baritone the perfect fit for the national anthem.
