Anil Kumble dismisses possibilities of any major injury to Ravichandran Ashwin
There has been some concern after reports earlier today that Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has suffered an injury on his right forearm, after which he left the session with a bandage. The India team has been having an intensive maiden preparatory camp overseen by new coach Anil Kumble, and they are scheduled to depart for the Caribbean islands on Wednesday.
While addressing the media after the training sesssion, Kumble ruled out the possibility of a major injury. Not willing to entertain the matter much, he said briefly, “It’s a bruise, we’ll assess him. It’s been just an hour since it happened. It should be okay,”
Ashwin was struck while facing a Mohammed Shami delivery, while on batting practice duty on the last day of the six-day camp at the NCA. It is sincerely hoped by the Indian team and fans that the injury is not serious. On proof of spinners’ success in the recent ODI tri-series in the West Indies, it is being thought that India could field as many as three spinners in the Tests.
India tour of West Indies begins on the 21st of July. India is scheduled to play four Test matches against West Indies. It is going to be India’s first series under the coaching of Anil Kumble. The first Test will be played at Antigua.
Kumble spoke about how he was a fan of Kohli’s aggression and that he would never try to curb it. Kohli, sitting alongside, spoke about the team’s intent to play aggressive and result-oriented cricket without thinking about rankings.
After returning from the Caribbean the world's second-ranked side are set for a busy season at home when they will play 13 test matches, eight ODIs and three T20 internationals.
Ashwin has been underbowled in the recent past after being one of the best bowlers of the year 2015. It is hoped his 2016 does not receive a setback with an injury.
