Anil Kumble’s belongings stolen at the Green Park Stadium - reports
Team India Coach Anil Kumble’s important belongings went missing at the Green Park stadium, signifying why Kanpur may not be considered as a Test cricket venue again in the near future. Hosting a five-day long game here came with its own set of hindrances.
During the celebrations of India’s 500th Test, Anil Kumble was called upon the stage to be felicitated. The former bowling great decided not to carry his phone, cap and shades with him to the stage and left them where he was seated. While the governor of the state was presenting Kumble a shawl and memento, a pair of dishonest hands, capitalised on Kumble’s absence and stole all of the three belongings. All of it happening in the presence of security personnel as reported by ESPNCricinfo.
The 500th Test celebration was attended by the past and present captains of the men's team, the women's team, and the International Cricket Council (ICC) bigwigs. A gala dinner was held after a brief ceremony at the stadium.
This is the second time after becoming the Indian Head Coach that Kumble faced such an outward situation. Prior to this incident, he misplaced his belongings in the West Indies earlier this year. Lack of responsibility by the airways was cited as the reason.
It was after he reached Caribbean shores that he realised his kit bag was missing from his luggage. He apparently left them behind at the London airport, where the authorities did not transfer the belongings.
Also reported during the on-going series was an attack by a monkey in the team’s dressing room, two days before the match.
New Zealand on the ropes against India
India’s 500th and first of the three-match Test series against New Zealand is currently underway with the visitor’s struggling to save the game for themselves on the fifth and last day.
The next Test match will be played at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata from September 30 to October 4, followed by the third and last one at Holkar Stadium, Indore from October 8 to 12. Eden Gardens and Holkar Stadium have hosted many big games in the past and thus the security concerns here should not arise.
Following the Test Series, India and New Zealand will face off in five ODIs, from 16 to 29 October.
2016-17 will see one of the longest test seasons at home for India, which will also include visits from England, Australia and Bangladesh.
