Arjun Tendulkar not picked for the U-14 probables

Trying to follow father’s footsteps – Arjun Tendulkar

Arjun Tendukar’s name did not figure in the list of probables for the U-14 tournaments to be played under the aegis of the Mumbai Cricket Association. The fact that he did not perform well in the selection trials and tournaments this season, went against him.

It may be remembered that Arjun was a part of the Mumbai side that won last years junior tournament, and must come as a big disappointment for him to not even make it to the probables list this time. Considering that he does receive a lot of help and coaching from various quarters, its is quite difficult to fathom his lack of improvement.

His fielding and lack of speed and intensity are also cited as reasons for his non inclusion. “There are so many people involved with Arjun’s coaching but still, his fielding is nowhere near today’s standards. He needs to improve a lot in that area. His batting is fine but he needs to convert starts into big scores like the other promising young players,” a selector said.

The fact that Arjun happens to be the son of India’s greatest cricketing icon, reveals the unbiased and fair selection policy of the Mumbai Cricket Association and its selectors. Lets hope it spurs him on to work harder and get his place back in the side. For the moment he will not be a part of the off season camp which will be held shortly.
