Ashes 2015, 5th Test: Australia produce a superb bowling show to reduce England to 107/8

England’s wickets fell like nine pins

After brilliant batting performances by Steven Smith and Adam Voges, Australia's bowlers put on a terrific show by demolishing England's batting line-up with several quick strikes. England finished Day 2 on 107 for the loss of 8 wickets after Australia were bowled out for 481 runs. They are trailing by 374 runs now.

Smith and Voges continued their overnight scores and added 146 runs together for the fourth wicket stand. Voges compiled a fine fifty before getting trapped in front off the stumps by Ben Stokes for 76.

Steven Finn reached the milestone of 100 wickets by dismissing Mitchell Marsh. But Smith continued to trouble England's bowlers and cracked his 11th Test ton. This was his 5th Ashes hundred.

Finally, Moeen Ali came to England's rescue as he struck twice just before lunch to give his team some hopes of coming back in the game. Australia finished the first session at 376 for 7.

Mitchell Starc entertained everyone by smashing a thrilling half-century while Smith at the other end kept going along by placing the ball in the gaps. Smith finally got out at 143 and England didn't take much time after that to finish Australia's innings, which ended at a solid 481 runs. Ben Stokes and Finn picked 3 wickets apiece for the hosts.

Adam Lyth and captain Alastair Cook came out for England after the innings break. They got a humble start, but couldn't convert it into a big score as Nathan Lyon took the prized wicket of the in-form Cook.

Then started the Peter Siddle and Mitchell Marsh show, both of whom bowled a tight line and got plenty of bounce. Siddle pocketed the wickets of Lyth and Ian Bell, while Marsh got the important wicket of Joe Root. England started to lose wickets at regular intervals after that.

Mitchell Johnson's bouncer got Jonny Bairstow back in the pavilion. Marsh then got Stokes and Stuart Broad in the same over; Broad was particularly clueless as he got beaten all ends up to get out for duck.

England are trailing now by 374 runs with just 2 wickets remaining in the first innings. Australia will be looking to wrap up the proceedings early tomorrow as they know they can enforce a follow-on over England now.
