Ashes 2015: Australia win 5th Test by an innings and 46 runs

Australia nearing big Ashes win

Rain forced an early lunch at the Kennington Oval in London when Australia were just two wickets away from registering a big win with England swinging loosely at 258/8. The hosts began the fourth day of the final Ashes Test on 203-6, still needing 129 more to make Australia bat again.

Australia started right on money as Peter Siddle trapped Mark Wood in front of the stump to give the visitors the start they needed. Originally it was given not out, but Australia successfully reviewed it.

Mitchell Marsh took the second wicket of the day as wicket-keeper batsman Jos Buttler trying to chip, tossed it away to the mid-off region where Mitchell Starc took a fine catch.

Before this, the crowd gave a standing ovation to the Australian captain Michael Clarke who was playing his final Test as he made his way out to the middle.

After a rain delay of a couple of hours, England’s batsmen folded for 286. Moeen Ali’s 35 was the brightest spot on the final day for them.

Australia won the 5th ?Test by an innings and 46 runs, having lost the Ashes 2015 2-3 to the hosts.
