Ashes 2nd Test, 3rd day; Who said what: World reacts to a thrilling day of play between Australia and England
The third day of the 2nd Ashes Test had no shortage of entertainment with 13 wickets falling throughout the day.
Despite losing four quick wickets in their second innings, Australia will feel that they have the upper hand after bowling England out for just 227 runs earlier in the day, thus taking a 215 run lead.
However, they decided against enforcing the follow-on and are hoping to build a big lead for England to chase down in the second innings.
Nathan Lyon, Mitchell Starc, and Pat Cummins were amongst the wickets with the former picking up four, while the latter two combined to pick up five. Lyon also went on to become the highest wicket-taker in the calendar year, only to be replaced by India's Ravichandran Ashwin a few hours after the achievement.
At one point, it looked like Australia would bowl England out for a score below 200; However, Chris Woakes and Craig Overton put on a 66 run partnership for the eighth wicket. By doing so, they salvaged some pride for themselves and the Englishmen.
England's bowling attack struck back at the beginning of Australia's 2nd innings by dismissing the openers and Usman Khawaja as well.
Steve Smith looked to rebuild the innings but was dismissed LBW to Chris Woakes after scoring only 6 runs.
Nathan Lyon and Peter Handscomb are currently unbeaten on 3 each as Australia end the day at 53-4.
With two days to go, Australia look the favourites to take a 2-0 lead. It will take a monumental effort for England to make something out of this match.
