Ashutosh Aman breaks Bishan Singh Bedi's record for most wickets in a Ranji Trophy season. He claimed his 65th wicket on Wednesday to surpass the great Bishan Singh Bedi. The 32-year-old trapped Manipur’s Sagatpam Singh to put his name in the record books.
Playing in Plate Group, Bihar’s Ashutosh Aman took a record 68 wickets from eight matches, which included nine five-wicket hauls and five 10-wicket hauls at an average of 6.48.
Ashutosh Aman had best figures of 8/51 in an innings. It was an amazing performance by Aman who created havoc among all teams in the Plate Group.
Despite his efforts, Bihar could not qualify for the quarter-finals stage as Uttarakhand was the only team to qualify for the knockout stage from Plate Group. An employee from Air force, picked, Aman picked up 7 for 71 in the final league match against Manipur. He made his debut for Bihar this season against Uttarakhand in November.
A slow left-arm orthodox spin bowler, he did the job for Bihar in all matches of Ranji Trophy 2018/19 season. Aman was instrumental in helping Bihar finish second in the points table, behind Uttarakhand. Bihar finished with 40 points from eight matches. Bihar won six matches and lost only one in the group stages.
During the 1954/55 season, Bishan Singh Bedi took 64 wickets for Delhi. The other top wicket-takers in Ranji Season were Dodda Ganesh of Karnataka who took 62 wickets in the 1998/1999 season.
Kanwaljit Singh of Hyderabad took 62 wickets in 1999/2000 season. Venkataraghavan from Tamil Nadu took 58 wickets during the 1972/73 season.
Maninder Singh of Delhi took 58 wickets during the 1991/92 season. Ranadeb Bose of Bengal took 57 wickets in 2006/07 season. Recently, Shahbaz Nadeem of Jharkhand took 56 wickets in 2016/17 season.
