Ashwell Prince and Alviro Petersen smash records in county cricket
Alviro Petersen and Ashwell Prince piled on a record 501 runs partnership for the third wicket in English county match at the Colwyn Bay Cricket Club Ground. The Lancashire’s batsmen reached the feat while playing against Glamorgan.
In county’s 151 years history, this was the highest partnership for any wicket, and only the 13th time in first-class history that any stand passed 500 runs. The South African duo also passed Lancashire’s previous highest stand for any wicket of 371 runs that stood for 87 years.
Prince scored his career-best 261 which included 34 fours and 7 sixes. He fell first as Glamorgan finally parted the pair after their mammoth innings together.
Soon, Petersen got out too as he after reaching 286 – also his career best – which included 35 fours and 2 sixes.
Lancashire declared innings on 698 for 5, which is also their fifth highest-ever score.
Glamorgan’s wicket-keeper, Mark Wallace, later told BBC Radio that it was an absolute World class performance by both the batsmen.
"A difficult couple of days at the office, but hats off to them because sometimes you come across performances like that. Alviro Petersen and Ashwell Prince were absolutely world-class today and it's a reminder of how good these international players are at times,” Wallace said.
"That batting was as good as you're ever likely to see. You want to take wickets but at times you've just got to admire these players,” he added.
