Asia Cup 2014: Abdur Rehman barred from bowling; finishes with figures of 0-0-8-0
Pakistan spinner Abdur Rehman was not allowed to bowl after bowling three consecutive full-tosses (perceived as beamers) above the waist in their Asia cup match against Bangladesh at Mirpur on March 4, 2014. He finished the match with bizarre figures of 0-0-8-0.
Rehman’s first delivery was way wide down the offside, as the ball slipped out of his hand. It was judged as a no-ball by umpire Johan Cloete.
His next delivery was above batsman Imrul Kayes’ waist and was signalled as a no-ball again. However, he wasn’t taken off the attack after a brief discussion between the umpire and captain Misbah-ul-Haq.
His third and final delivery was a high full-toss, and Anamul Haque pulled it away for a boundary towards midwicket. He was then barred from bowling in the match, and Fawad Alam was asked to complete his over.
Law 42.6.b states that a slow delivery which passes or would have passed on the full above shoulder height of the striker standing upright at the popping crease is to be deemed dangerous and unfair, whether or not it is likely to inflict physical injury on the striker.
