Shakib Al Hasan and Rubel Hossain late additions to Bangladesh cricket squad for 2014 Asian Games
Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan and fast bowler Rubel Hossain have been included in the Bangladesh squad for the upcoming Asian Games in Incheon, South Korea.
The duo are replacing off-spinner Sohag Gazi and paceman Al-Amin Hossain after the duo were reported for suspect bowling actions, and they will have to undergo biomechanical testing as soon as possible as per the procedures of the ICC.
Shakib, whose disciplinary ban was shortened till September 15, when he was allowed by to play domestic cricket, wasn’t given the NOC (No-Objection Certificate) by Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) to participate in the ongoing Champions League T20.
Pace bowler Mashrafe Mortaza will be the captain of the side for the 7-day event, starting 27th September. Women’s matches will start from 20th September.
Meanwhile, Sri Lanka, who are the only other ICC full member nation taking part in the men’s event, will be led by left-hander Lahiru Thirimanne while fellow left-hander Upul Tharanga has been appointed his deputy.
The matches will be played in Twenty20 format at Yeonhui Cricket Ground in Incheon, South Korea.
Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan and Hong Kong will get direct entry in the knockout stages of the tournament. The other 4 teams in the quarterfinals will be decided from six teams – China, Malaysia, South Korea (Group A) and Kuwait, Maldives and Nepal (Group B)
In the women’s format, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Japan will directly qualify for knockout stages, with 4 teams qualifying from the group stages. The other teams are: Hong Kong, South Korea, Thailand (Group C), and China, Malaysia and Nepal (Group D).
