Australia v India 2016 2nd ODI: Player Ratings

The Australian batsmen again outclassed their Indian counterparts

India lost the second ODI against Australia at the Gabba in Brisbane after a dominating performance from the batsmen once again. Although the Gabba pitch offered some bounce, more than 600 runs were scored.

The Australian top-order dominated the Indian bowlers as three of the top four scored half-centuries to give the hosts a seven-wicket victory. India's persistence with two spinners did not seem to pay off as the pitch offered no assistance to turn.

Here are the player ratings from the second ODI:

India:

Rohit Sharma: 9/10

Rohit Sharma's start to 2016 only seems to get better as he notched up his second hundred in as many games. His 124 in 127 balls took India to a 300+ score once again. Of the ten hundreds Rohit has scored in ODIs, five of those have come against Australia.

Shikhar Dhawan: 1.5/10

Dhawan's poor run of form continued. The 30-year-old does not seem to be learning from his past mistakes as he misjudged a ball well outside off stump to edge the ball to the wicketkeeper.

Virat Kohli: 7.5/10

The Indian vice-captain carried on his form from the first game and scored a well-made half-century. Kohli was unlucky to miss out making a bigger score after being run-out.

Ajinkya Rahane: 8.5/10

Rahane came in at No. 4 and scored runs at a brisk pace to score an excellent 89 off 80 balls. After having not got the opportunity to bat in the first ODI, Rahane has got off to a great start in the new year, continuing where he left off in 2015.

MS Dhoni: 4.5/10

Dhoni came in at a time when India needed to play shots frequently and lost his wicket trying to go for the big shot. However, he was assured in his wicketkeeping.

Manish Pandey: 3.5/10

The young batsman finally got an opportunity to bat, however, Pandey came to bat in the 47th over. He scored only 6 runs, but the boundary that Pandey brought up India's 300 and was a very good shot.

Ravindra Jadeja: 6/10

Jadeja did fairly well with the ball as he picked up 1/50 in nine overs. But, with the Australian batsmen outperforming their Indian counterparts Jadeja failed to bowl a consistent line and length. The all-rounder was excellent in the field and saved his side some runs. With the bat, Jadeja struggled to play the big shots, which he is known for.

Ravichandran Ashwin: 4.5/10

India's best spinner had a disappointing outing on a Gabba wicket that failed to assist spin. He failed to pick up any wickets and conceded 60 runs in 10 overs. Ashwin came in to bat in the last over of India's innings and could not contribute much.

Umesh Yadav: 5/10

Umesh Yadav was India's most expensive bowler as he gave away 74 runs in his 10 overs. Although he picked up the wicket of the dangerous Steven Smith with a good ball, he failed to contain the Australian batsmen in a consistent manner.

Ishant Sharma: 5.5/10

Playing his first ODI for India after more than a year, Ishant Sharma started off well conceding only 30 runs in 7 overs. He bowled 30 dot balls in his 10 overs. However, he leaked away a few runs in his last three overs and also gave away eight wides, not maintaining a consistent line and length.

Barinder Sran: 6.5/10

Along with Jadeja, Sran was the best of the bowlers for India. He was not able to pick up a wicket in this match, however, he contained the Australian openers early on in the innings and bowled in a disciplined manner. His effort to catch Shaun Marsh at fine leg was commendable as he dived full stretch and definitely saved a boundary.

Australia:

Aaron Finch: 8/10

Although he started his innings slow, he picked up pace later on and scored a useful 71 at the top of the innings and was involved in a crucial first-wicket stand with Shaun Marsh.

Shaun Marsh: 8/10

Coming back to ODI cricket after nearly a year, Marsh played an excellent 71 off 84 balls and his 145-run stand with Finch was important in Australia's record chase at the Gabba.

Steven Smith: 7.5/10

The Australian captain's form against India is nothing but phenomenal. With an average above 80, Smith seems at ease playing against India and he continued his good form with the bat as he scored 46 off 47 balls.

George Bailey: 8.5/10

Bailey, Australia's best batsman in the second ODI, continued where he left off in the first ODI as he scored a brilliant knock of 76 off just 58 balls to help Australia chase down 309 with no hiccups.

Glenn Maxwell: 7/10

Although he did not play his natural way with the bat, Maxwell played a responsible innings and stuck around with Bailey until as their 63-run stand took Australia home. Bowled fairly well with his off-spinners and did not leak away too many runs. Maxwell also had a catch to his name.

Matthew Wade: N/A

Not a lot of contribution from the wicketkeeper-batsman. Took a catch and was involved in the run-out of Kohli.

James Faulkner: 7/10

The left-arm seamer's slower balls troubled the Indians as he picked up two wickets off his variations. However, he was a little expensive as he gave away 64 runs in his ten overs. Faulkner also played a major part in Rohit Sharma's run-out and thus probably helping Australia restrict India from scoring bigger.

Kane Richardson: 5/10

Richardson, who came in place of Mitchell Marsh, was the most expensive of the bowlers. Sharing the new ball with Joel Paris, Richardson was hit all around by the Indian batsmen, especially Rohit Sharma. However, the bowler made up for his poor performance with the ball as his brilliant throw got Kohli run-out and broke a good partnership for India.

John Hastings: 6/10

Hastings, coming in place of Josh Hazlewood, put in a decent performance with the ball as he did not give away too many runs and picked up a late wicket for his efforts.

Joel Paris: 6.5/10

After having a not-so-impressive debut, Paris was the pick of the Australian bowlers as he picked up his maiden wicket in the form of Dhawan and conceded only 5 an over. He also got a catch to his name to dismiss Pandey.

Scott Boland: 5.5/10

Boland had a poor start to his career at the WACA as he was the most expensive bowlers. At the Gabba too, Boland gave away easy runs. However, he got his maiden wicket, a big too, that of Dhoni. At times, he tried to overdo his slower balls and gave away a few extra runs.
