Australia name squad for Bangladesh tour, 2 uncapped players given first call-up

Opening batsman Cameron Bancroft is widely tipped to be a long-term Test match prospect

On the same day that the 29th Australian Prime Minister was unveiled, the country have also named the 15-man Test squad which is to take on Bangladesh over two Tests in October, giving maiden call-ups to Tasmanian fast bowler Andrew Fekete and Western Australia opening batsman Cameron Bancroft.

Adam Voges has been named vice-captain of the team, in the absence of the injured David Warner.

Also being recalled to the team are batsmen Usman Khawaja and Joe Burns, who have had recent experience of playing in the subcontinent for Australia ’A’. Left-arm spinner Stephen O'Keefe, who had success on the Australia ‘A’ tour as well, has been recalled as well – as has been limited overs specialist Glenn Maxwell.

Mitchell Johnson and Josh Hazlewood were not considered for selection, with the selectors deciding to rest them ahead of the Australian summer. Alongside Fekete, Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc and Peter Siddle will complete Australia’s 4-man pace attack.

The 30-year-old Fekete was last season Sheffield Shield’s second highest wicket taker, while the 22-year old Bancroft has been widely tipped to be a long-term Test match prospect in the Australian batting line up.

The Squad: Steve Smith (c), Adam Voges (vc), Cameron Bancroft, Joe Burns, Patrick Cummins, Andrew Fekete, Usman Khawaja, Nathan Lyon, Mitchell Marsh, Shaun Marsh, Glenn Maxwell, Peter Nevill, Stephen O’Keefe, Peter Siddle, Mitchell Starc
