Australia vs India 2016, 1st ODI: Preview, Team News, Live stream and TV Channel Info

Can Dhoni lead India to a series win in Australia?

India will be looking to make history in Australia as they take part in their first bilateral series against the reigning World Champions in their own backyard. After a couple of impressive performances in the two practice games, MS Dhoni’s men will be looking to start with a win at the WACA.

Australia, who will be without their three main front-line seamers, two through injury (Mitchell Starc and Pat Cummins) and one to retirement (Mitchell Johnson), will be looking to maintain their unbeaten run at home in ODIs with a new-look pace attack.

Scott Boland and Joel Paris are set to make their debuts and while the bowling attack looks new, there is a familiar feel to their batting lineup, which consists of plenty of big-hitters and players in form.

The opening duo of David Warner and Aaron Finch are enough to strike fear in the eyes of any bowling attack, but when they are followed by Steven Smith, George Bailey, Glenn Maxwell and Mitchell Marsh, with James Faulkner, one of the best finishers in the world, coming in at No.8, you know the batting lineup is a force to be reckoned with.

India, who will be without the services of the leader of their pace attack, Mohammed Shami, will be hoping that their strong batting lineup can come to the party and Ravichandran Ashwin can begin 2016 as well as he ended the last year.

Team News

Australia

Australia have already announced their XI for the first ODI with Joel Paris and Scott Boland set to make their ODI debut. David Warner, who won't be playing the final three ODIs will open alongside the Australian T20 skipper Aaron Finch.

The current and former Australian ODI captains will form the backbone of the batting order, with Maxwell, Marsh, Wade and Faulkner at No.8 providing plenty of ammunition. Hazlewood will lead a new-look bowling attack adn there was no space for Shaun Marsh in the batting order.

India

Although India’s top five are settled, the search for a No.6 to play the finisher role is still ongoing. With Suresh Raina dropped for the ODI squad, the visitors will have to pick between Gurkeerat Mann or Manish Pandey. Although Mann has been on the fringes since the South Africa series, conditions at Perth might mean Pandey, who made a strong case for selection with a fifty in the last warm-up match might get the nod.

Mohammed Shami's injury means Barinder Sran, who was impressive the warm-up matches, will make his debut. While Umesh Yadav, Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja will partner Sran, the fifth bowler is likely to be a toss-up between the returning Ishant Sharma or Rishi Dhawan, with the former likely to get the nod thanks to his experience.

Possible Line-ups

Australia XI

David Warner, Aaron Finch, Steven Smith (C), George Bailey, Glenn Maxwell, Mitchell Marsh, Matthew Wade (WK), James Faulkner, Scott Boland, Josh Hazlewood, Joel Paris.

India XI

Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan, Virat Kohli, Ajinkya Rahane, MS Dhoni (C & WK), Manish Pandey, Ravindra Jadeja, Ravichandran Ashwin, Umesh Yadav, Barinder Sran, Ishant Sharma.

Pitch & Conditions

True to its, the WACA pitch is expected to offer plenty of pace and bounce. With the sun beating down and a maximum temperature of 26 C, this looks like the perfect win the toss and bat first pitch. With two front-line spinners in the side and dew unlikely to be an issue, India will want to bat first and give their bowlers something to bowl at.

Recent Form

Australia: W-L-L-W-W (most recent first)

India: L-W-L-W-L
