Kohli and Rahane had a 101 run partnership

Day 3 of the First Border Gavaskar trophy ended with India batting on 369/5. India batted very well and would have been in a really good position after today’s day but the wicket of Virat Kohli at the fag end of the day  has just tilted the game in balance. Here are some of the statistical  highlights from Day 3:

  1. Vijay scored a wonderful 53 off 88 balls.  This was his second fifty against Australia, and his 7th fifty  
  1.  Murali Vijay has played 7 tests against Australia which includes 3 hundreds and 2 fifties. He has scored 733 runs at an average of 61.08.
  1. Pujara scored his 4th half century against Australia today,his 6th overall in Tests. The other 2 fifties were scored against England in the Third Test of the series this year which was played at Rose Bowl.
  1. Pujara’s 73 today is his second highest score away from home, the highest being 153 vs South Africa at Jo’burg in 2013.
  1. This was Pujara’s 3rd consecutive fifty against Australia, He had scored 52 and 82 not out at  Feroz Shah Kotla in Delhi..
  1. Pujara has scored 568 runs against the Aussies in his 10 innings so far at an average of 71.
  1. This was the 300th time that a team has declared after scoring 500 plus,  Australia have done this the most number of times , that is 67 times.
  1. Virat Kohli became the 4th  Indian player to score a century in his first match as Captain. The other three players are Vijay Hazare, Dilip Vengsarkar and Sunil Gavaskar. .
  1. Today’s hundred was Kohli’s 7th in tests and 3rd against the Aussies.
  1. Kohli has score 252 runs in his 3 innings at Adelaide oval, and has already scored 2 centuries at this venue.
  1. Rahane’s 62 from 76 balls was his 1st Fifty against the Australians, his 5th overall.
  1. Today’s innings for Rahane was his third  innings against the Australians, the other two were at Feroz Shah Kotla in Delhi.
  1. Rahane is the leading run-scorer for India in Tests in 2014 - his aggregate being 523 (avg 40.23) in eight tests.The person behind him is Vijay who also went past 500 runs in his innings that he played today.
  1. Kohli and Rahane today shared a 101 run stand, this is India’s Third century partnership for the fourth wicket at Adelaide Oval.
