What's the story?

Australian opener David Warner has picked Rohit Sharma to break Brian Lara's longstanding record of the highest individual score in Test cricket. Warner, who became the 2nd man to score a triple hundred in pink-ball cricket, also reflected on his marathon innings against Pakistan.

The background

David Warner played his best knock during Australia's first innings in the ongoing Test match versus Pakistan. Despite having a torrid time with the bat in Ashes 2019, Warner has batted flawlessly at home. He slammed 39 fours and a six in his 335-run knock at Adelaide.

The fans backed him to shatter Lara's 400* record in this match but Tim Paine declared the Australian innings when Warner was 65 runs away from the score.

Talking to FOX Sports after the end of Day 2, Warner disclosed that after crossing the 300-run mark, he had become too tired to clear the boundaries. He said:

"Yeah, look, I think it's about the person himself. We've got long boundaries, it is quite difficult at times. When fatigue sets in, it's very hard to try hard and throw your hands at it. At the end, I tried to run twos to lift the ante because I couldn't actually think like I could clear the ropes."

When asked to name a batsman who could break Lara's 400* record, Warner replied:

"I think, one day, if I've to name a player, I reckon it could be Rohit Sharma. Definitely."

What's next?

Australia are just seven wickets from sealing this Test match. The Pakistani batsmen need to give all they have to avoid a defeat. Besides, it will be intriguing to see if the rains stay away from the Adelaide Oval or not.
