Australia vs South Africa Day-Night Test Day 1 Stats: Faf du Plessis becomes 1st captain to score ton, Australia equal Baggy Green record
Led by a superb hundred from skipper Faf du Plessis, South African put in a decent performance on Day One of the Day-Night Test at the Adelaide Oval on Thursday, declaring their innings at 259 for 9, thereby giving Australia 12 overs to bat under the lights.
With David Warner unable to bat thanks to an injured right shoulder, Usman Khawaja and Matt Renshaw walked out to the middle and negotiated the remainder of the day, scoring 14 runs in 12 overs.

1-Courtesy his innings of 118 not out, Faf du Plessis became the first captain to score a century in a day-night Test match. The right-hander made an unbeaten 118 before declaring the innings at 259 for 9. It is also the highest score made in a day-night Test at the Adelaide Oval. It was also his second hundred at the Adelaide Oval.
2-du Plessis’s 118 not out is now the second highest individual score in a Day-Night Test, surpassing 116 made by Darren Bravo. Azhar Ali holds the record for the highest individual score of 302 not out, which he made against the West Indies last month.
4-On Thursday, Hashim Amla was dismissed by Josh Hazlewood for the fourth time in the series. The right-hander has faced 33 balls from him. It equals the record for the most number of times any bowler has dismissed him in any Test series.
2-du Plessis’s century made him only the second South African captain to score a hundred in Australia.Graeme Smith is the other skipper, who has made two tons Down Under.
0-Number of 50+ opening partnerships for South Africa in their last 11 innings away from home. The last time the openers put in a 50+ first wicket stand was in Chittagong in 2015.
5-Australia have handed out as many as five debut caps in this series. The last time that happened was during the 1981 Ashes series in England, where the same number of players had made their debuts.
4-This is the fourth time that a declaration has happened before stumps on Day 1. The last time it happened was in the India vs Australia Test in Hyderabad.
1-Matt Renshaw became the youngest Australian opener on debut at 20 years and 241 days since the late Phillips Hughes, who was 20 years and 88 days old at the time of his debut in 2009.
2-Tabraiz Shamsi became the second South African chinaman bowler to play in Australia after Paul Adams.
