Australia women clean-sweep T20 series against West Indies

Melbourne, Nov 9 (IANS) Australia's women cricket team, also known as the Commonwealth Bank Southern Stars, defeated the West Indies by eight wickets in the fourth and final Twenty20 International at Stadium Australia here Sunday, giving them a 4-0 series clean-sweep.

After winning the toss and electing to bat, the West Indies put on 107 for seven from their 20 overs, which the Commonwealth Bank Southern Stars chased down in 15 overs, finishing 111 for two.

Ellyse Perry was named the player of the match for her figures of three wickets for nine runs, while team-mate Jess Jonassen claimed the player-of-the-series award for her consistent effort across the four matches with bat and ball.

Shemaine Campbelle top-scored for her side with 34, with Shanel Daley the next best batter with 19 runs. Perry led the Australian bowling attack with her economical spell, while Jonassen also picked up two for eight.

The two teams will now compete in four One-Day Internationals as part of the Commonwealth Bank Women's International Series, with the first match to be played at Hurstville Tuesday.
