After a fierce contest between the Trans-Tasman rivals in the first ODI, Australia Women are set to host the White Ferns for the second ODI at Adelaide. The home side emerged victorious in the first encounter by five runs. After an ordinary batting performance, the Australian Women bowled well to go 1-0 in the three-match series. New Zealand needs to bounce back in the upcoming match to stay alive in the series.

Australia played like a unit in the opening ODI, and it was a complete team effort which took them over the line in the final over. The hosts managed to post 241 runs on the board in the first innings when asked to bat first. Rachel Haynes played some beautiful shots to dominate the game in the initial stages. Ashleigh Gardner and Jess Jonassen came along to stitch another crucial partnership down the order after the southpaw got out for 67(80).

Decent contribution from the tailenders made sure that Australia posted an average score of 240 plus runs. Their bowlers took the responsibility to restrict the visitors under the target. The player of the Match, Jess Jonassen, bowled a great spell to bag four wickets in the second innings. Megan Schutt and Ellyse Perry took two wickets each to give the home side much needed early breakthroughs. Australia would be eyeing to seal the series in the upcoming ODI in Adelaide.

New Zealand, on the other hand, will be desperate for a win in this crunch match to keep their hopes alive. The White Ferns fell short by just five runs in the first ODI and missed out a crucial win. Having won the toss, the visitors elected to field first in WACA. The bowling department did an excellent job to restrict the hosts under 250 after a good start. Sophie Devine & Co made sure that they kept picking wickets at a regular time.

Amy Satterthwaite starred in the second innings with the bat along with Katie Perkins(48) to turn the tie exciting. New Zealand’s skipper played an exceptional knock of 92 runs under pressure but failed to take her team over the line. The White Ferns could manage to score only 236-9 in their quota of 50 overs. The visitors would be hoping to bounce back in this must-win game.
