Darren Lehmann feels Starc needs to find a happy medium

Darren Lehmann was happy with the way his captain Steve Smith handled the Starc controversy

Mitchell Starc, the Aussie speedster was fined 50% of his match fee when he threw a bizarre throw towards Mark Craig. Starc was hit for 2 boundaries and that took his frustration to a next level, leading him to throw the ball towards the batsman and conceding 4 more runs by the virtue of overthrows. Australian coach, Lehmann said that Starc needs to find a “Happy Medium” for his on-field temper.

Lehmann was happy to see how Steve Smith reacted to the situation and controlled the Australian pacer, making sure that things were in control.

Starc has been involved in such incidents before too, this time he was fined for $7725 and was publicly rebuked by the Australian captain, Steve Smith.

This is what the Australian coach had to say about the incident, “He's got to find that happy medium. They're all great kids, learning their way in international cricket. You love to see the aggression, it's just making sure it's the right time."

Steve Smith talked to the press for the first time as full-time test captain and when asked about the incident, he told that it was disappointing and not necessary.

"I thought it was pretty disappointing, He's done it a few times and I'm going to have a word to him when I get back down in the sheds. I don't think it was necessary at the time and hopefully he can improve and get better from that," Smith said.

The Australian coach was really happy to see Smith take the opportunity and put his foot up as captain, Lehmann said, “I was very happy with the captain and the way he handled that. I know the players are.”

Lehmann was pleased to tell that everything is now in control and the captain has handled Starc in his own style. The Australian coach did step behind to praise Smith as a captain, “He's had a chat to him and that's done and dusted from where I sit. The way he talks to players behind the scenes, there's a lot that goes on. We've been really impressed with him as a coaching staff group.”

Australia take on New Zealand on Tuesday at WACA for the second Commonwealth Bank test. Australia will hope that Starc can keep his cool in the upcoming matches and refrain himself from being punished or being banned in the middle of the series.
