Australia's Adam Zampa hopes to make his Test debut

Adam Zampa enjoyed a breakout ICC World Twenty20 with Australia

Australian leg-spinner Adam Zampa, who has been touted as the next great Australian spinner after Shane Warne, is trying to constantly improve on his bowling in order to make a Test debut for Australia in the near future. The 24-year-old had a breakout ICC World T20 for Australia followed by an excellent IPL season for the Rising Pune Supergiants.

Zampa has been consistently selected in the Australian team for the limited overs formats and feels that this robs him of the opportunity to showcase his skill sets for the longer format in Shield matches. Speaking to cricket.com.au, he said: “I think I've only played about five Shield games in the past 12 months or so. So it is frustrating only, because I really enjoy that format. I love playing for South Australia and Adelaide Oval is a great place to play, so all those things added up means it is frustrating.”

One of the rising talents of Australian cricket, Zampa believes that he has been steadily improving since his debut for the team. He said, “But in terms of making it to the next level in that format, I want to keep improving my bowling. I think if I look at myself 12 months ago, 18 months ago, or 24 months ago, I think I'm ten times a better bowler than I was then.”

The 24-year-old feels he needs to improve on his versatility in different conditions saying, “Obviously I need to work out the conditions, bowling in Australia compared to bowling in places like here or India. I think the more I can experience that the better I'll be anyway."

Zampa is optimistic about his chances of making the Test squad soon. “If I keep improving the way I think I've been improving, it's definitely something that I think is on the cards, Nathan is doing a great job at the moment and I'm very happy where I am playing Twenty20 cricket and one-day cricket.”

He added, “I just want to keep improving and hopefully if that opportunity does arrive, I'll definitely be ready for it."

Zampa had an impressive debut IPL season with the RPS under the leadership of M.S.Dhoni. He returned figures of 12 wickets from 5 matches, with best figures of 6/19 in four overs against the Sunrisers Hyderabad.
