Bangladesh name strong 'A' squad for India tour
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) named a strong squad for their tour to India which begins on September 16, ESPNCricinfo reports. The 15-member squad which will be led by Mominul Haque has as many as 14 internationals including Soumya Sarkar and Rubel Hossain.
Bangladesh A are set to take on India A in three One-Day matches and a one-off three-day game while they will also face India’s reigning domestic treble champions Karnataka in a three-day game. With Bangladesh set to take on Australia in a two-Test series in October, the BCB have chosen the tour to India as means to properly test their bench strength.
The tour also serves as match practice for players like fast bowler Taskin Ahmed and Anamal Haque who are coming back from injury. Haque missed out on the 2015 World Cup with a shoulder injury while Taskin has been troubled with niggling injuries for quite some time.
Also set for making his first competitive fixture for more than six months is fast bowler Al-Amin Hossain who was sent home from Australia based on disciplinary grounds. The team possesses a strong line-up that includes Nasir Hossain, Liton Das, and Sabbir Rahman apart from Sarkar and Mominul.
The only player in the squad who is yet to feature at the international level is left-arm spinner Saqlain Sajib and the skipper acknowledged that he has a strong side at his disposal.
"It’s my first tour abroad as a captain so looking ahead to make it memorable," Mominul said. "It won’t be easy considering we will be playing against the Indians at their own backyard, but I am confident that we can put up a good show considering our strength. I think we have got an experienced squad and it will be good for our preparation ahead of the series against Australia."
