Bangladesh cricket needs an instant overhaul
While the second match of the ongoing Sahara Cup saw a substandard show by the Bangladesh cricket team, somehow they would be trying to extract a few possitives out of it.
While the pitch was doing a little too much” (to say the least!), no one reason can justify 58 as a total! After losing 15 matches down the trot, winning none in 2014 in ODIs, the morale of the Bangladeshi team is certainly on an all-time low. The pressure is huge on Mushfiqur Rahim also as a captain who is leading the side through this devastationg run.
Also, no one can deny the fact that a dark (perhaps vicious) cloud is hovering over the Bangladesh cricket after this dismal run. I call this cloud as a vicious one because it could indeed prove to be vicious for certain senior Bangladeshi players who are out of from and failing badly at the international level.
Also, certain youngster’s would be hoping to make the cut into the permanent national team to be tried and tested when the senior player’s are not performing upto the expectations. And one of these youngster’s is Taskin Ahmed.
Although Stuart Binny stole the show with his magical spell, Taskin Ahmed was more than a relevation in this match, who performed over-whelmingly well in the match and has provided the Bangladeshi’s the ray of hope. The wicket had a lot of moistureand and was showing great movement and Taskin made the most out of it. At the age of 19, in your debut match, getting a figure of 8-0-28-5 is no child’s play. Taskin showed grit, pace and movement throughout the two spells he bowled. Morover, he was making the ball swing both into and away from the batsman which few bowlers are able to do.
When you look back at tha fast-bowler’s Bangladesh cricket has produced over the last decade who have left a significant inpact on World Cricket, unfortunately you find none.
Bowler’s like Mashrafe Mortaza and Rubel Hossain have been there but they too have not imprssed much due to inconsistency and through and through it is the spin bowling attack that Bangladesh have counted upon.
Summing it up, I would say that it is high time high-time and Bangladesh cricket desperately needs an overhaul. Mushfiqur Rahim and BCB will have to make bold decisions if they want to stay in competition in international cricket. In one-day and T20 especially, young-blod has to be infused into the team if Bangladesh wants to stay in contention.
