Bangladesh lose Shakib, Mushfiqur before lunch

REUTERS - Bangladesh lost their most experienced batting duo of Shakib Al Hasan and Mushfiqur Rahim to India's spinners as the tourists reached 202 for five at lunch on the final day of the one-off test at Hyderabad on Monday.

Bangladesh, chasing a target of 459 and needing to bat at least 90 overs to save the match, still need an improbable 257 more runs with five wickets in hand.

Mahmudullah is unbeaten on 58 after notching his 13th test half-century and has Sabbir Rahman, on 18, for company.

Playing their maiden test in India, Bangladesh suffered an early blow when Shakib departed in the third over of the day after adding just a single to his overnight score of 21.

Left-arm spinner Ravindra Jadeja landed the ball in the rough created by the bowlers' footmarks and it spun and jumped to hit Shakib's glove, leaving Cheteshwar Pujara to complete a simple catch at short leg.

First-innings centurion Mushfiqur and Mahmudullah held firm for a 56-run fifth wicket stand to frustrate India, who are ranked number one in the world and unbeaten in their last 18 tests.

India skipper Virat Kohli raised some eyebrows by keeping his lead spinner Ravichandran Ashwin, who on Sunday became the fastest to pick up 250 wickets in tests, waiting until the 18th over of the morning to bowl his first ball.

But the world's top-ranked bowler needed just four deliveries to break the stand.

Mushfiqur looked to attack the off-spinner but managed only a skier and Ravindra Jadeja held on safely at mid-off to dismiss the batsman for 23.

The Bangladesh captain looked as if he had committed himself to attacking Ashwin, who has already taken three wickets in the second innings, from the first ball and his dismissal might prove to be a big blow to his side's hopes of saving the test.
