BCCI allows Duleep Trophy-bound Tamil Nadu players to take part in TNPL
In a bid to encourage the growth of Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL), BCCI has permitted Tamil Nadu cricketers who are also slated to play in Duleep Trophy to participate in the newly formed T20 competition.
Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA) announced the development which holds true for those players who do not get picked in the playing eleven or during non-match days of the pink-ball domestic tournament.
The press release stated, “The Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA) is pleased to announce that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has allowed the Tamil Nadu players participating in the Duleep Trophy 2016-17 to play for their respective franchises in the inaugural edition of India Cements TN Premier League.
“The players are allowed to join their India Cements TN Premier League squads in case they are not picked in the playing XI and can also travel back during the non-match days at the Duleep Trophy.
“Additionally, players from the team that doesn’t qualify for the Duleep Trophy final will be allowed to join their respective franchise. TNCA would like to thank BCCI for allowing the same and appreciates the support that the India Cements TN Premier League has received from multiple state associations from around the country.”

Among those who have been selected in both events include Baba Aparajith, Dinesh Karthik, Arun Karthik, Murugan Ashwin, Abhinav Mukund and Murali Vijay. Unlike previous editions which comprised of zonal teams from each part of the country, the 2016 Duleep Trophy will see India ‘Red’, 'Blue' and 'Green' clash against each other.
The likes of Yuvraj Singh, Gautam Gambhir and Suresh Raina have been named captains in the tournament which will be played for the first time under lights in Greater Noida. Each side would play the other once before the five-day final starts on September 10.
On the other hand, the inaugural season of TNPL featuring teams from cities/districts such as Chennai, Coimbatore, Dindugal, Kancheepuram, Karaikudi, Madurai, Thoothukudi and Tiruvallur runs from August 24 to September 18 in three different venues.
