BCCI announces 2 crore cash award for Team India
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced a cash award of Rs.2 crore for the Indian team after they beat South Africa 3-0 in the recently concluded Test series. India beat the number one side in three of the four Tests.
India faced criticism from every side for the kind of pitches that were on offer during the series, but brushed all off that aside to clean up the series 3-0. The hosts defeated the Proteas by 337 runs in the fourth and final Test to win the series 3-0 at the Ferozeshah Kotla stadium in New Delhi on Monday.
Chasing a mammoth target of 481 runs, the visitors were bowled out for 143 despite the dour and defensive batting from the likes of Hashim Amla, AB de Villiers and Faf du Plessis for a large part of day five.
India won the first Test by 108 runs at Mohali and the third match by 124 runs in Nagpur, both within three days on turning pitches. The second match in Bengaluru was called-off after persistent rain.
Announcement on Twitter
BCCI came out on twitter to announce the award. "BCCI announces an award of Rs.2 crore to the Indian Cricket Team for their 3-0 series win against South Africa," BCCI tweeted on Monday.
BCCI's bosses are all in Delhi to attend a governing council meeting of the Indian Premier League (IPL) to announce the two new teams that will be added.
With the series win over the best side in Tests, India climbed to the second position in the International Cricket Council (ICC) Test rankings and also broke South Africa’s nine year unbeaten streak away from home. However, South Africa retained their No.1 position in the ICC Test rankings.
