BCCI approaches Gautam Gambhir to become Team India's next head coach: Reports
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has reportedly placed Gautam Gambhir on the top of their list to become the next men's team head coach. According to ESPNCricinfo, further discussions are expected after IPL 2024, the final for which is slated to take place on May 26 in Chennai.
ESPNCricinfo has also reported that Dravid is not keen on another tenure after the 2024 T20 World Cup. The former Indian captain succeeded Ravi Shastri in the role after the 2021 T20 World Cup and has had reasonable success, but has failed in breaking India's ICC trophy jinx so far.
Gambhir, meanwhile, has no international experience as a coach. However, he had two successful years as the mentor of the Lucknow Super Giants in 2022 and 2023, given they qualified for the playoffs. The former opener is currently the mentor for the Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL 2024, where they will finish the league stage as the table toppers.
The BCCI posted the advertisement last week, seeking the head coach for the Indian men's team.
The board mentioned that it would be for all formats, with the tenure starting in July 2024 and lasting until December 2027.

The 42-year-old also turned the Kolkata Knight Riders' fortunes around, helping them win two IPL titles in 2012 and 2014. Under him, the Knight Riders also made it to the final of the 2014 Champions League T20.
