BCCI contemplates a change in its name
One of the most lucrative sports bodies of the world, the Board of Control for Cricket in India might soon change its name. The new name could well be decided by the millions of Indian cricket fans in a poll on the BCCI website. The richest cricketing board is contemplating a change in its name as the newly elected President Anurag Thakur wants to replace a certain word in the name of the apex body. This surely is one remarkable proposal, given the fact that the body which was founded in 1928 has recently found itself in troubled waters.
BCCI President Anurag Thakur told the Times of India, “Yes, I had put forward this idea in the meeting today. I think the word 'Control' should be replaced by 'Care'.” The name which has been in place for the last 88 years might soon be replaced as the President wants to emphasize on the aspect of ‘caring’ for the various stakeholders including the umpteen fans.

He pointed out, “We want to do away with the word 'Control.' We want to care for our fans, players, coaches, selectors, administrators and all the other stakeholders who matter in cricket."
Though some of the old-time members seemed a bit hesitant about the move, yet the proposal was greeted with positive responses by some of the board members. This issue will be thoroughly discussed in the next few board meetings and then only something can be known.

However, the change in the name gives one clear indication that the new President is trying his best to elevate the image of the body which has recently been dragged into controversies. The word 'care' proves the fact the apex body wants to shun the image of a dictator and think about the various stakeholders who are either directly or indirectly connected with the Indian cricket.
The allegations of monopolisation and corruption have often tarnished the image of the body and recently it got into deep trouble as the Supreme Court came down heavily on it. After the election of Anurag Thakur, the body is desperately trying to clean its image by planning several things. The idea to promote cricket in the North-East regions of the country was also implemented and there are several other recommendations as well which are waiting in the pipeline.
Recently, the former Indian captain Anil Kumble was named the coach of the Indian cricket team and Thakur welcomed this decision with gusto.
