BCCI forgets to disallow banned suspect action bowler from playing B division match
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) forgot to disallow a bowler, who has a suspect bowling action and is yet to get it cleared by them.
Mumbai off-spinner Ankush Jaiswal, who was called for chucking in the Ranji Trophy league stage this season, bowled in the Times Shield ‘B’ Division match at Cross Maidan last week. Parsee Gymkhana’s cricket secretary and Vice-president Khodadad Yazdegardi has demanded an explanation from the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) over Jaiswal being allowed to bowl.
Jaiswal starred in Mumbai Customs Sports Club's comprehensive victory over Nirlon Sports Club, claiming four wickets in the match . he took two wickets for 19 runs in the first innings and another two wickets for 61 in the second innings.
The 23 year-old made his Mumbai Ranji Trophy debut for Mumbai on November 23 against Madhya Pradesh. He picked up five wickets in the match at Indore. After the match he was reported for a suspect action and is yet to get his action cleared by the BCCI.
It is totally unfair to allow chuckers to bowl in local matches: Yazdegardi
A furious Yazdegardi said, "Jaiswal's teammates told the umpires that he has got special permission from the MCA to bowl in the match. On what grounds was he allowed to bowl when the BCCI has not cleared his action? It doesn't matter whose permission one has acquired to bowl. It is totally unfair to allow chuckers to bowl in local matches. I will be raising this issue strongly in the Annual General Meeting on January 22.”
Yazdegardi also raised his concern, fearing Jaiswal could bowl in today's Purshottam Shield semi-final between MIG Cricket Club (Jaiswal's club team) and Cricket Club of India.
MCA's Joint Honorary Secretary Dr Unmesh Khanvilkar said no permission was granted for Jaiswal to continue bowling in official matches.
This incident points out the unawareness of the BCCI. A bowler, who was reported for a suspect action and is yet to get his action cleared by the Board is bowling in local matches raised quite a few eyebrows in the Indian cricket administration.
The BCCI is currently set to act on the Lodha Committee report that has suggested multiple changes in the BCCI and the IPL administrating structure. BCCI also appointed Justice AP Shah, the Ombudsman to exclusively look into all cases of conflicts of interest. This issue of Jaiswal also takes place under insufficient administrative management.
