Reports: Series likely to be named after Sachin Tendulkar

BCCI secretary Sanjay Patel has said that the board is planning to name a cricket series after Indian legend Sachin Tendulkar.

The 41-year-old is the highest run-getter in the history of ODI and Test cricket. Following his Test retirement last year, he was honoured with the Bharat Ratna – India’s biggest civilian award.

Now, the BCCI plans to honour him by naming a series after him.

“It’s prestigious. While honouring a legend like Sachin, we have to make sure that we choose a marquee series. We don’t want to institute a series in Sachin’s name just for the sake of doing it,” Patel said.

When he was asked whether it was fitting to have Tendulkar’s name being associated with the upcoming series between India and the West Indies, Patel added: “It’s premature to discuss about it. Nothing is finalised as yet.”
