BCCI planning to allow women cricketers to play overseas leagues
In what will prove to be a watershed moment for Indian cricket, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is all set to allow women cricketers a go-ahead and participate in different foreign leagues like the Women's Big Bash League (WBBL).
This comes after the BCCI has already planned to introduce central contracts for India's women cricketers.
"India's women cricketers can now play in overseas leagues in Australia and England, subject to their contracts being approved by the BCCI. The decision, taken during a meeting of the BCCI's women's cricket committee on Wednesday, paves the way for India's players to take part in tournaments such as the Women's Big Bash League in Australia and the Women's Super League in England," ESPNCricinfo stated.
This announcement will however not allow the ladies to take participate in the inaugural WSL, s it will held from July 30 to August 14 this year.
The BCCI is yet to decide on the issue when the England and Wales Cricket Board sent a letter to all Full Members seeking their permission to enlist players. The ECB signed up 18 overseas players - from Australia, New Zealand, South Africa and West Indies - and unveiled its final squad lists in April.
This announcement will without a doubt create a lot of opportunities for cricketers like Mithali Raj and Jhulan Goswami.
