BCCI will discuss over Rahul Dravid's candidature for coach of Indian senior team

The decision maker – Anurag Thakur

With Rahul Dravid’s name doing the rounds as one of the most eligible candidate to become the coach of the Indian senior team, Anurag Thakur, BCCI secretary added more fuel to the rumours by saying that the BCCI will have to discuss and deliberate over Rahul Dravid’s candidature before the board takes any decision on who will be the next coach of the Indian senior team.

Thakur, however, while talking to fans during a social media interaction assured that the right person will be selected in due course of time.

Thakur said, “So far what I have seen, the media is publishing many reports which are not even discussed in meetings at any levels. Rahul Dravid has done extremely well as a player and he has been the outstanding coach for India A and U-19 players.”

The top contender – Rahul Dravid

The story goes long back

According to sources, there were reports that the BCCI’s advisory committee, comprising Sourav Ganguly, Sachin Tendulkar, and VVS Laxman, has approached Dravid for the top coaching job.

Earlier, Dravid, himself deliberately did not give any conclusive reply. "Any decision that I make at this stage of my life would depend on whether I have the bandwidth to do all of these things," Dravid had said when media asked him whether he ready to take up the challenge and replace Ravi Shastri.

Ravi Shastri’s contract as Team Director came to an end after the completion of the ICC World T20.

“Before taking any call, we have to discuss that within the BCCI that who we want to hire for the next 2 or 3 years till the 2019 World Cup and who could be best for Indian cricket. But I would like to assure you that we will pick the right person, at the right time,” Thakur said during an interaction with fans on a social networking site.
