Man from Bengal arrested for threatening to kidnap Sachin Tendulkar's daughter
A 32-year-old man from West Bengal has been arrested for threatening to kidnap Sachin Tendulkar’s 20-year-old daughter Sara. The man arrested by the police has been identified as Debkumar Maity who belongs to the Purba Medinipur district of West Bengal.
Maity had stalked Sara and also expressed his desire to marry her. A complaint said that Maity had called up the Tendulkars’ residence and threatened to kidnap Sara if his desire to marry her was not fulfilled. He had dialled Sachin’s landline number several times. The police are currently investigating how the accused got hold of The Master Blaster’s landline number.
The police have claimed a diary from Maity’s house, in which he wrote Sara’s name and proclaimed her as his wife. Sara had lodged a complaint against Maity at Bandra Police Station following which the policemen began their search. The cops tracked the accused by using the location of telephone towers from the area he used to call Sara.
Following his arrest, Maity spoke about his obsession with Sara, stating, "I saw her on TV sitting at the pavilion during a match and fell in love...I want to marry her. I fetched the landline number of Tendulkar and have called on it some 20 times...But I have never seen her in person."
Maity is unemployed and a college dropout. His family has claimed that he is mentally unstable. His relatives have also claimed that he has a wide array of mental illnesses. "We had no idea how he got embroiled in this case. Even at home he used to torture his parents. He lost his father recently. He has been undergoing medical treatment for his condition for the last eight years.”
Maity is expected to appear at the Haldia Court later today, after which he will be taken to Mumbai via transit demand. A medical investigation is also scheduled to take place in order to determine whether he is unstable or not.
