Spinner Dom Bess will make his England debut in the first Test against Pakistan at Lord's.

Captain Joe Root confirmed Bess will be in the final XI when the two-match series starts on Thursday.

The 20-year-old Somerset slow bowler has played only 16 first-class matches, but gets his chance in London after county team-mate Jack Leach suffered a broken thumb earlier this month.

Jos Buttler will also be in the team as a specialist batsman, meaning he will feature in a Test for England for the first time since December 2016, after earning an unexpected recall.

However, Root said a decision has not yet been made over whether Mark Wood or Chris Woakes will get the nod, with the two pace bowlers battling it out for the last spot.
