BBL 07: Jofra Archer completes stunning run out against Adelaide Strikers
Young West Indies all-rounder Jofra Archer pulled off a sensational run-out while playing for the Hobart Hurricanes against the Adelaide Strikers in the Big Bash League match between the sides at the Adelaide Oval today.
While the Strikers' opener Alex Carey was on strike, Archer delivered a perfect yorker from around the wicket, which the left-hander pushed to the left of the bowler. Archer sprinted to collect the ball, which he brilliantly did with his left hand while diving, and turned back immediately to notice that both batsmen were stranded in the middle of the pitch.
While falling on the ground, the 22-year-old aimed at the stumps, and stunningly, disturbed the woodwork to find Carey's opening partner Jake Weatherald short of his ground. After Archer hit, there was confusion as to which of the two batsmen was dismissed as both Carey and Weatherald seemed to have been standing right in the centre of the pitch.
After much deliberation, the third umpire finally declared Weatherald as out. The run out was an exceptional example of match awareness from Archer, displaying great agility to break a solid opening stand of 171. However, the other opener Carey hardly lasted any longer: off the very next ball, Archer had him bowled off a middle-stump yorker which the batsman missed due to quick pace from the bowler.
Eventually, the Strikers put up 187/4 in their quota of 20 overs with Carey scoring exactly 100 and Weatherald getting 65. Archer finished with excellent figures of 3/27 in four overs with none of the other bowlers getting a single wicket.
The Hurricanes, however, could not manage to overhaul the target as two early wickets did not allow them a stable start. Though Alex Doolan and Ben McDermott stitched together 102 for the third wicket, they ended up at only 176, with the Strikers winning by 11 runs.
