Bishan Singh Bedi blames T20 cricket for Indian batsmen's struggles against Moeen Ali
Former India spinner Bishan Singh Bedi has referred to English spinner Moeen Ali as just another ordinary spinner who has been made to look good by the Indian batsmen.
Bedi has claimed that the English all-rounder is neither a mystery bowler nor a top class spinner of the ball. Ali has managed to trouble the Indian batsmen in the ongoing series and has become the fastest England spinner to reach 20 wickets in Tests.
Indian batsmen are traditionally known to be great players of spin bowling, hence this failure against the 27-year-old Ali has come as a bit of a surprise for many. Even established batsmen like Virat Kohli and Cheteshwar Pujara have given their wickets away to him.
“One should ask the Indian batsmen as to how they rate him as a spinner! As far as I’m concerned he is an old-fashioned off-break bowler and nothing much to add to it. Our top order lacked adept technique in handling a spinning ball as a result of playing excessive T20 cricket. Keep Test cricketers away from T20. Only then can we succeed,” the former Indian left-arm spinner said.
Bedi’s former bowling partner Erapalli Prasanna was more impressed with Ali and gave him credit for his performances.
“One must give credit to Ali for bowling to the fields set to him. He proved that the Indian batsmen are susceptible to spin bowling,” the Bangalorean said.
